Hailed as a “bold performer with huge facility” with “an enthusiastic personality, both in her speaking and playing, [that] will make her an advocate for the music she plays”, Yuki is a New York City-based double bassist and educator with a passion for joyful and community-strengthening performance. Yuki has performed with orchestras such as the New World Symphony, Sacramento Philharmonic, Symphony San Jose, Santa Cruz Symphony, and Fresno Philharmonic, and has appeared at iconic venues around the world including Carnegie Hall, the Vienna Musikverein, Davies Symphony Hall, Slovak Radio Hall, and Smetana Hall. As a teacher, Yuki has a pedagogical approach that centers creativity, joy, and the unique needs, goals, and interests of each individual student, informed by her extensive training in inquiry-based, multimodal, and interdisciplinary pedagogy. In addition to years of private music teaching, Yuki brings a unique perspective as an experienced museum educator, having worked for a cumulative three years at the Museum of Modern Art as an ArtLab Facilitator and as a Gallery Teacher at the Yale University Art Gallery. Yuki has had the privilege of teaching people of all ages and needs, including elementary schoolers learning English, veterans with vision loss, corporate team builders, and social groups with special needs. Having taught students of all ages from all walks of life and with two years of experience as a preschool music teacher, Yuki is deeply passionate about meeting all of her students whoever and wherever they are to practice goal-setting and effective practice habits, develop healthy mental and physical technique, grow confidence, and further joyful music making.

Yuki graduated with a master’s degree from the Yale School of Music, where she was principal of the Yale Philharmonia and New Music New Haven Contemporary Ensemble and, in addition to studying music, spent two years as a prestigious Wurtele Gallery Teacher at the Yale University Art Gallery where she developed a passion for inquiry-based, interdisciplinary pedagogy.
